Lisa | Austin Maternity Photographer

Maternity Portrait Austin Texas

I recently did a maternity shoot for Lisa and Gordon in Austin, Texas and unlike most of my clients, who prefer an outdoor backdrop for their maternity portraits, they preferred to do a shoot in their home, which was such a great experience being welcomed into their lovely home, but also presented numerous challenges that outdoor photography normally does not yield.

It was such a great privilege to be able to meet Lisa and Gordon and shoot their maternity portraits. Doing the portraits indoors definitely gave the shoot a distinct and unique quality. More of this lovely couple and their maternity portraits to come soon!

A quick trip up I-35 and I got some really fantastic maternity portraits with Lindsey and David Love. They could not have been better models, always open to suggestions and comments, it was a genuinely fun photo shoot. You have to love Lindsey's wherewithall to show off that belly of hers in front of so many people out at the park, not counting the droves of little children who couldnt seem to comprehend the nature of what we were doing and actually came over and asked me and her questions! It was adorable!

Zilker Maternity Portraits 2012

Sometimes you just get lucky. Plain and simple. This past weekend forecasted overcast skies and rain, and it did in fact rain for a good portion of Saturday only to break just as my evening session was supposed to begin. It was hot, and humid but Crystal, Doug and I walked Zilker park and shot some absolutely stunning shots, this one included, which happened to be one of the last shots we took on our way out of the park. Sometimes patience and a big helping of luck is all you need to get an absolutely fantastic shot! For information on session packages feel free to contact me with any questions you might have regarding maternity, newborn & family portraits.

Austin Photographer Location Recommendation: Zilker Botanical Gardens

I've recently done several shoots at the Botanical Gardens here in Austin, Texas, all of which were portrait sessions and outside of the $50.00 photographer charge, which is steep considering the other great spots in Austin, I highly recommend utilizing this hidden oasis in the middle of Austin. The scenery is diverse and yet consistent at the same time, offering you multiple different backdrops ranging from foliage and pagodas, to the Austin skyline.

Considering that the portraits I recently shot there were in fact maternity portraits with a woman who happened to be 39 weeks pregnant no less, that brings up a major draw back of the botanical gardens for shooting either young children or maternity photography sessions there: it is in fact very hilly and windy and will easily tire your clients if you choose to walk the entirety of the grounds like we did. But of course the end result definitely justified the walk and numerous braxton hicks contractions my client had along the way!

Making a Baby: Penelope Simons

I began rummaging through my old images for no particular reason and found myself sifting through my wife's pregnancy pictures from our daughter and thought it would be an absolutely great topic to start and show the amazing journey that a woman's body goes through during pregnancy.
Pregnant in the Kitchen
Before the belly even began to grow, my wife's poor feet slowly but slightly began to swell and that was the first real sign we saw of the changes in a long line of amazing changes to her body.
32 Weeks Pregnant
And soon after the swollen feet the belly decided it ought to catch up and catch up it did! Before we knew it she couldn't see her feet to save her life!

Then those clothes that used to fit so well really didn't fit all too well, and so those remained tucked away and only used in doors, although due to the fact that in Texas the weather is just truly unfair for a pregnant woman to have to endure, we did take a walk one evening during which my wife let her belly run free. It was a very freeing and eye-catching stroll!

And then came that excruciatingly long stretch of those last couple of months where we both became quite impatient and decided to have fun with the belly while we both had access to it! And despite her best efforts even prenatal yoga couldn't do the trick.

At 39 weeks when we least expected it, my wife's water broke just as we were about to eat dinner, and so at the last minute we scrambled to get our own personal things in order and grabbed the hospital bag and headed off to the hospital and after a night of laboring our beautiful baby girl Penelope Lee Simons was born.

Lovely portrait session my wife and I did a few weeks before she gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Penelope Simons. We spent the better part of an afternoon walking the trails of Circle C, stopping here and there to take some maternity portraits. It could not have been better weather, and the client was absolutely fantastic, I mean top notch cooperation! Yes, that was sarcasm. The client actually stiffed me for my time and edits of her maternity portraits. Only kidding. Lots of love to my beautiful and adoring wife, Aubrey and our baby girl, Penelope.

What a great photoshoot with an absolutely adorable couple, Krystal and Frank, who just recently had their baby this past week. We did this shoot in Austin, Texas and used several different locations to get some really adorable shots. I cannot stress enough what great clients, and models they were for their shoot. An absolute breeze for a photographer when you're given such great interaction between themselves and with you.
